Coulter Heckled in Kansas and Throws a Fit

Wed Mar 30, 2005 at 08:59:31 PM PDT

There is an interesting video on the Kansas news station here about a recent Anne Coulter lecture at Kansas University.

It seems that Coulter couldn't handle a few people making comments in the audience.  She stopped her lecture and asked that "Could 10 of the largest College Republicans start walking up and down the aisles and start removing anyone shouting?"

I wonder why conservatives never can tolerate any disagreement with their views.  /rolls eyes

  •  What's the Matter with Kansas? (4.00 / 2)

Apparently not as much as we thought...

  •  and she got paid (none / 1)

    $25,000

You'd think she could deal with a little heckling for an hour for $25k.

"I think there are some people in the audience who meant to be at the sexual reorientation class down the hall," Coulter said, in response to the heckling.

Moments later Coulter stopped and called for assistance from students when hecklers started in again and no one of authority was seen trying to stop them.

"Could 10 of the largest College Republicans start walking up and down the aisles and start removing anyone shouting?" Coulter asked. "Otherwise, this lecture is over."

is pretty darn liberal. Don't mistake it for the rest of KS :).  When I went there, students would regularly shout down and run out Phelps who'd try to sneak onto campus.  It was 100000000 times more liberal than the school I go to now! KU can do me proud (just not in the NCAA tourney)!

LJWorld has another piece on it. My favorite quote?

"ome of the protesters, such as Robert Richardson, said they were members of the Society of Open-Minded Atheists and Agnostics.

"We're just not open-minded enough to like Ann Coulter," Richardson, 28, of Lawrence, said."

  •  Never fails to amaze me! (none / 0)

How thin skinned the Bushites are. The left dares criticize their ethics and they scream "PARTISAN LIBBRULL @#@!$!"  One incident of vandalism in the midwest, and the Dems are "THUGS!"  We're supposed to sit quietly while Coulter tosses out charges of Treason? If even One person from the left challenged her lack of even basic civility she'd yell for help.  I hope Vampira gets the message that her foul mouth monologues aren't going to be considered acceptable by all the folks in the audiences for her Stage Show.
    •  Although, to be fair... (none / 0)

...imagine if Seymour Hersh were giving a lecture and was interrupted more than five times by wingnuts yelling, "Get a life, liar!" or "Stop bashing America, you commie!" which I'm sure is equivalent to the taunts facing mAnne.  Sy wouldn't like it one bit, nor would the audience.

That being said, it's just too bad they didn't coordinate a little better so that only certain people were interrupting/getting ejected at one time, to thus make the whole all the more disruptive.  mAnne is gross, so gross that my innate belief in the goodness of humanity makes me think that her thing is all a schtick.  No one is really that gross, not anyone who is sane.

A questioner asked her "So Ann, what is bigger, your Adams Apple or your dick?"

    •  Mmm. Well... I don't like Coulter... (4.00 / 2)

at all, at all, at all. Anyone who writes a book trying to turn McCarthy into a hero is downright dangerous, and richly deserves criticism whenever she dares to show her face in public.

All the same... that comment was so far beyond the pale, I think it accomplished the nearly impossible -- it put the hecklers in the wrong.

    •  I HATE those comparisons (none / 1)

I wish people would stop that.  It shows incredibly bigoted attitudes about transfolk.  And, it shows pretty nasty ideas about gender as well.  People may think it's funny to make funny of her "gender".  It's not.  It's stupid and insulting.

  •  Ann Coulter (none / 1)

A few years back ('02), Ann Coulter came to speak at my wife's alma mater, UCF, to the College Republicans on campus sponsored by the college Christian Republican club. My wife despises Coulter with a passion, and said that we had to go. It felt like we were liberal spies at her get together in the liberal arts auditorium (go figure).

If Ms. Coulter is giving the same type of speech as she did back then, which I'm sure she/he is, it most likely went like this:

"Liberals want to destroy America. They are big poopheads."  --Not verbatim, you get the gist.

We were amazed that for a lawyer and 'columnist', she might have something of substance to say, for at least a moment, but no. It was just the typical Ann Coulter name calling garbage. To think that a piece of trash like her gets an income from these events is just pathetic. She milked these clowns out of a few grand for an appearance that didn't last more than about 40 minutes. You should have seen the guys with the hard-ons while she was signing her latest and greatest book. It was disgusting.

  •  Would that be a (4.00 / 3)

hissy fit or a hussy fit?

And two people at a previous appearance threw pies at her?  You don't throw pies at her, you throw water.

Ann will start to travel around with College Rethugs for her speaking engagements. They won't wear the brownshirts, as tradition dictates, but they'll definately be white.

    All together now!
  •  Same thing happened to her at Vanderbilt (none / 0)

last week, tho the students shushed the hecklers each time (heckling broke out several times).  Vanderbilt is a pretty reliably conservative campus, too.  Report here:

  •  Schiavo would give a better speech... (none / 1)

I'm against disrupting speeches, but this case raises a question: do the sounds coming out of Ann Coulter's mouth constitute human speech?  Sure, Coulter's body is alive, but what about the brain? This week on her blog Anne C. blathers on about killing liberals.  Last week she proposed sending in the military to keep a brainless body alive. Is this human thought, or some sort of oozy vegetable byproduct?
  •  Incitement to violence (none / 0)

I particularly like the comment from the one fellow who laid it on the line (pretty non-partisan in his comment)--what Coulter did was incite physical confrontation. Ain't there a law against this sort of thing?

    Oh, right, laws? BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  •  Ironic (none / 0)

one of her supporters in the audience suggested that it wasn't asking much that she simply be treated with the respect she deserved. Frankly, I think that's what happened--I don't know why they're so bummed.

When I attended university, visting speakers actually had to say something useful, informative and/or verifiable for their $2,500 (not $25,000). That she gets that kind of money for essentially spewing outrageous accusations and incitements to violence is beyond the pale.

AC getting 25k for her worthless propoganda and her ShockChick persona performance or her spewing her worthless bile in a university setting.

Why the FUCK are universities permitting her worthless ideas within 500 miles of their doors?

Maybe the conservatives are right about the decline of standards in our institutions of higher learning. Any university that pays for a lecture from a modern Republican hack has most certainly lost its way.

William Kristol, speaking at Earlham (college?) in Richmond, Indiana, was assaulted with an ice cream pie Tuesday evening.

    Two questions:

    1.  What flavor of ice cream?

    2.  Seriously, are tactical gestures like these
an effective way to counter neo-con ideology, or
do these actions create sympathy for the target?
